KUALA LUMPUR – The national men’s doubles pair, Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik have regained their form at the Badminton Asia Championships (BAC) as they secured their spot in the finals after defeating China’s Liang Weikeng and Wang Chang in Ningbo, China today.
Following a challenging European campaign last month, which included a disappointing early exit at the All England due to injuries and inconsistent performances, Aaron and Wooi Yik demonstrated that they remain among the elite pairs globally, winning decisively in just 31 minutes with scores of 21-16, 21-11 against the defending champions.
This victory also marks the world number six pair’s first win over Liang and Wang in nearly a year, having previously lost to them in the semi-finals of the Paris Olympics last year, where the Chinese pair went on to earn a silver medal.
Aaron and Wooi Yik are set to compete against either China’s Chen Bo Yang and Liu Yi or Indonesia’s Leo Rolly Carnando and Bagas Maulana in the final tomorrow.
Notably, the last time Aaron and Wooi Yik reached the BAC final was in 2022, where they were defeated by Indonesian pair Pramudya Kusumawardana and Yeremia Rambitan.
The Malaysian duo secured a bronze medal in last year’s tournament. – April 12, 2025
