KUALA LUMPUR – Ticket sales for the Malaysia Cup final between Sri Pahang FC and Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) have skyrocketed following the announcement of a live performance by Datuk M. Nasir, Ella, and Nadeera Zaini before kick-off on Saturday at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium.
According to the Malaysian Football League (MFL), 60% of tickets have already been sold for the final, which will be held at the 85,500-capacity stadium.
Both clubs have been allocated 33,600 tickets each for their supporters.
JDT, the overwhelming favourites, are chasing a third consecutive treble after already securing the Super League and FA Cup titles. Meanwhile, underdogs Pahang are aiming for their first major trophy since lifting the FA Cup in 2018.
MFL acting CEO Shazli Shaik confirmed the surge in ticket sales.
“We’ve seen positive movement in ticket sales from both Sri Pahang and JDT supporters since our recent announcements.
“We’re also very grateful to the celebrities who have agreed to promote the final and perform before kick-off,” Shazli said when met during a Hari Raya open house at Wisma FAM today.
Shazli added that a lucky draw is being held to attract more buyers, with prizes including three motorcycles, an electric scooter, and electronic gadgets for online purchasers.
“We expect ticket sales to reach 80% through our combined marketing efforts, including media coverage and social media promotions,” he continued.
It was previously reported that only 13,000 tickets had been sold to Sri Pahang fans, with the response from Johor supporters also being described as lukewarm.
Earlier, Shazli voiced concerns to Scoop about the ticket sales for the final, highlighting that the match clashes with a live concert by rock icon Datuk Amy Search at Axiata Arena and a government-organised Madani Carnival, both held within the KLSC vicinity.
For the record, JDT secured their final spot after a dominant 6-1 aggregate win over their semi-final opponents at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium on January 17. Pahang advanced with a 3-2 aggregate after a 1-1 draw in the first leg at Stadium Likas the following day.
Pahang last reached the Malaysia Cup final in 2014, where they triumphed over JDT 5-3 on penalties after a 2-2 draw. — April 23, 2025
