In April, Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said that in 2020, one out of every six Singaporeans were aged above 65 – a jump from one out of every 10 in 2010. By 2030, it is projected that one in every four residents in Singapore will be over 65.
Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, when presenting the mid-term review of the 12th Malaysia Plan (2021-2025) at Parliament today, said the move was to ensure a concerted effort between the government, private sectors and civil society organisations could be strengthened in addressing the issue.
