The government has allocated RM1,935 million in electricity subsidy for consumers in Peninsular Malaysia for the January to June 2024 period, according to the Energy Transition and Water Transformation Ministry.
Targeted subsidies are the way to go as the government wants them to only benefit the deserving groups as well as avoiding leakages, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the government will reduce subsidies for the top 10% of electricity consumers while retaining subsidies for the remaining 90% of users.
The government has reiterated its commitment to improving the delivery mechanism of targeted subsidies, including those related to electricity, diesel, petrol and other social assistance.
