Putrajaya should consider postponing the implementation of the 10% tax on imported low-value goods (LVG) sold online, or apply it selectively to imported items that have Malaysian-made equivalents, MCA president Wee Ka Siong said today.
Cukai jualan ke atas barang bernilai rendah (LVG) diimport yang dijual dalam talian, yang akan berkuat kuasa mulai 1 Jan 2024, bertujuan memberi kesaksamaan persaingan kepada perniagaan tempatan, menurut Kementerian Kewangan (MoF).
The Finance Ministry has clarified that the government's decision to impose a 10% sales tax on imported low-value goods (LVG) sold online, effective from January 1 next year, is aimed at levelling the playing field for the local retail industry.
RMCD defined LVG as all goods – excluding cigarettes, tobacco products, intoxicating liquors, electronic cigarettes, and preparation of a kind used for smoking – which are sold at a price not exceeding RM500, and are brought into Malaysia by land, sea or air.
