Ex-finance minister’s lawyer claims same judge hearing both client and wife’s case would compromise judgement but prosecution insists judge is qualified, will act fairly

Former finance minister Tun Daim Zainuddin’s wife, Toh Puan Naimah Khalid, and his sons – Muhammad Amin Zainuddin and Muhammad Amir Zainuddin – are said to be beneficiaries of a trust with US$52.5 million (RM247.5 million) in assets, eclipsing his assets listed in the Pandora Papers.
The application, filed at the high court here yesterday, named the anti-graft agency and the public prosecutor as respondents – while Daim, five of his family members including his wife Toh Puan Naimah Khalid, and Ilham Tower Sdn Bhd were listed as applicants.
Addressing the media, Toh Puan Naimah Khalid claimed that her husband was being persecuted due to his success as a businessman and that he was dubbed a tycoon and millionaire even before joining the government.
Widad Group Bhd, in a response to a Bursa Malaysia query, said it was not aware of any corporate development relating to the group’s business that has not been previously announced that may account for the activity, including those in the negotiation stage or discussion for several business proposals which were still under preliminary discussions.
