Time to act on foreign worker exploitation – Callistus Antony D’Angelus

For some decades now, foreign workers in Malaysia have been openly and unashamedly exploited.  They have been treated as chattel and subject to slave-like working conditions. These workers are from poor countries such as Bangladesh, and have little recourse due to their economic conditions.

The Human Rights Commission of Malaysia is deeply concerned with the recent report of the detention of 171 Bangladesh workers who have been exploited and trafficked into Malaysia with the false promise of jobs, despite them having to pay huge recruitment fees.
